Personal Opinions:
I'll be honest, I had high hopes for these CD-Rs! I really expected them to perform very well, and the results that I saw were not even close to what I had come to expect from the reputation of Mitsubishi Chemicals. On the other hand however, these discs did perform quite well once I started burning them at speeds of 32x and lower... the only problem is, these discs were certified 48x! I must say though, at least there are many speeds available that you can burn these discs at without any problems, most discs that fail their certified speed tests only have 1 or 2 speeds you can burn them at to get usable results!

Technically Speaking:

Technically speaking, there may be good reason for these discs to have behaved the way they did. There has long been an incompatibility between AZO dye discs, and LiteON CD burners. However, this incompatibility was supposed to have been fixed already, so I am a little unsure of why the quality on these discs was so poor when burned at 48x and 40x. In an attempt to rule out my drive as the problem, I had a friend of mine burn the tenth and final Verbatim DLP disc that I had on his Plextor 16x10x40x drive. (click here for the results) As you can see, the Plextor drive had no problem burning the disc at 16x, and did a much better job of it then the LiteON 48125W did on any of the other tests. This leads me to believe that LiteON's are still having problems with these AZO type dyes. I would suggest to all owners of LiteON drives, to not use AZO dye type media if possible.

The Score:

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, I feel a have to give this media 5/10. This is mainly due to the fact that I must score based on the tests that I complete, and not by reputation or assumption. Yes, this media may even perform very VERY well on another burner, even at 48x, or maybe even 52x speeds, but the results shown by my tests lead me to a different conclusion. One thing is certain about this media however, it does not work very well with my LiteON 48125W! From my tests I would say that owners of Plextor drives will probably have much less difficulty burning these discs however.

I just want to take a moment to stress that even though the numbers and test results require me to give this media a low score, I really believe that this media type is capable of performing MUCH better under different conditions. I regret that due to my own hardware limitations I am unable to provide any real proof of this though.
Sincerely,
The Digital Dolphin
