Personal Opinions:
It may surprise a lot of you to hear this, but I actually like this media. Why? because despite its' shortcomings at its' certified speed, these discs can actually be burned fairly well at 32x and 24x on my LiteON 48125W, and they are quite cost effective. I wouldn't however recommend these discs to people who only own Plextor drives however, as this media type seems to be rather incompatible with Plextor CD burners for some reason (see my Plextor Premium testing). So I will probably actually buy some more of these discs for my own personal use in the future! My suggestion would be, if you buy this media, and don't own a LiteON drive, then burn it at 16x, which seems to be a safe speed.

Technically Speaking:

Technically speaking, these discs failed to achieve what they should have. These are supposed to be 40x certified discs, and with both my LiteON 48125W and my new Plextor Premium, this media type could not be properly burned at 40x. This is probably not Ritek's fault but Ricoh's, since Ritek made these discs to Ricoh's specifications. It is even possible, and even likely that Ricoh made some of their own changes to the dye used in manufacturing these discs, and that could be responsible for this flaw. In any case, this media does not perform as it should.

The Score:

I give these CD-Rs a 5/10. As you know, I try my best to score media by the results that I receive from my testing, and not based on reputation or packaging. To this effect, I feel I must give these CD-Rs a lower score then I normally would have, based on their performance (or lack there of) on the Plextor Premium drive. You can expect in the future to see a better break down of my scoring, since it appears a single generic score will no longer do the media justice! You can also expect the Plextor Premium to be a continuing contributor to these tests!
Sincerely,
The Digital Dolphin
