Well, I have to say that my opinion of this media is fairly poor. Yes, between the speeds of 32x and 16x this media scored
fairly well on all three drives I tested it on... but the media was rated for 48x burning! Maybe I'm just picky, but I really
expected more out of these CD-Rs! I would deffinatly recommend staying away from them unless you happen to have a newer Plextor
drive, or a LiteON DVD Writer.
Technically Speaking: Technically Speaking, these discs leave a lot to be desired! They don't burn at their certified speed reliably on my LiteON 48125W, and they seem to have a lot of issues with slower speed burning as well. Although each drive I tested this media on could burn it fairly well at *SOME* speed, only the Plextor Premium managed to get usable results under all tested burn speeds! So, without a lot of trial and error you could easily end up with some very poor quality burns of important data backups! According to the tests that I performed on this media: The optimal write speed on the Plextor Premium is 16x Speeds to avoid on the Plextor Premium: None The optimal write speed on the LiteON 48125W is 24x Speeds to avoid on the LiteON 48125W: 4x-16x, and 40x-48x The optimal write speed on the LiteON LDW-401s is 32x Speeds to avoid on the LiteON LDW-401s: 8x-16x The Score: Plextor Premium: In combination with the Plextor Premium drive, I give this media a 7.5/10. The media performed reliably on this burner, although rarely performed in a way I would consider "well". LiteON 48125W: In combination with the LiteON 48125W drive, I give this media a 6/10. This media did *NOT* perform very well in this drive at all! Unless you happen to own a Plextor drive, or a LiteON DVD writer, I would suggest basing your expectations of this media on this drives performance. LiteON LDW-401s: In combination with the LiteON LDW-401s drive, I give this media a 8/10. The highest scores for this media came from this drive, and only when reaching lower burning speeds did the error rate start creeping up. LiteON has most likely done a lot of work on their burning methods between the release of this drive, and the release of the LiteON 48125W! |
