The CD:

This week's review is on HP's 48x 80min CD-Rs. These CD-Rs were donated to me by Frank in Ontario. I am told that these HP CD-Rs were purchased at PC Village for about $25.00 per 50pcs. He's a pretty lucky guy since the best I've seen these CD-Rs for lately is $35.00 or so! (but I live in Vancouver B.C. and not Ontario).

I have to say that I am very happy to be reviewing these CD-Rs, since they have become a very common brand to see all over Western Canada, and at least to some extent Eastern Canada as well. I can't speak for the U.S., but I'm sure they have circulated down there as well. I always like to review CD-Rs that it is likely many people will encounter on a regular basis! ^_^

Technical Specs:
As you can see from the image on the right, these discs were manufactured by CMC magnetics for HP. What I found a little surprising was that the ATIP code for these discs did not match the ATIP code for the Optimum 48x CD-Rs, also made by CMC magnetics... A little more digging in my archives should that these HP CD-Rs actually have the same ATIP code as the older Optimum 40x CD-Rs! This means that both the Optimum 40x CD-Rs and these HP 48x CD-Rs will be burned in exactly the same way as each other. In fact, your burner will think they are the exact same type of disc! We shall see how similar these discs really are in comparison to each other though... on to the testing!!! Disc Description
