This is so far my most interesting review! here we have a CD-R type with a higher then average reported C1 error rate,
however, it performs well under all sorts of writing conditions! Also, under no circumstances during my test were any C2 errors reported!
The conclusion that I have come to is that these CD-Rs are good. They do have a higher reported C1 error rate, but I don't believe this
will be a problem. 8cm CD-Rs are used for many purposes, but they are NOT for use as a Mode 2 CD.
Under these circumstances, a higher C1 error rate will not matter, even a low C2 error rate could be corrected usually.
I would recommend these CD-Rs for use as any format of CD-R with the following exceptions: Audio format (not including MP3 CD format),
and all types of VCD (including SVCD XVCD and XSVCD) because they use less error correction. Besides, if you want to make an audio CD or a VCD,
you *WANT* the higher storage capacity of a 12cm CD-R anyways!
The Score:
So, finally, I will add that I do like these CD-Rs! I think the concept of compact storage is convenient, and I hope that it becomes more popular!
I give these CD-Rs an 8.5/10 because they stand up VERY well to overclocking, but the C1 error rate
could be a little lower. I still expect these CD-Rs to last a good 40-50 years though!
UPDATE!
Having now tested other 8cm CD-Rs, I have come to realize that these do not meet the requirements for the initial rating I gave them.
Therefore, I would like to apologize, and change my rating to 6.5/10. The discs are usable, but the reported C1 errors are much higher then they should be.
If you use these discs, I wouldn't worry too much, but there are still much better discs that are available. |
